South Korea Faces Deadly Floods and Tunnel Tragedy

South Korea is currently facing heavy rain and a flood disaster, with reports estimating the number of casualties at 37, and nine people still missing.

Hundreds of rescue teams are working tirelessly to reach trapped individuals and vehicles in an underground tunnel in the city of Chuncheon, in the Gangwon Province.

Yesterday, five people were rescued from a bus inside the tunnel, and nine more bodies were retrieved. Divers continue their round-the-clock efforts to search for more victims, as the tunnel was submerged in water yesterday, hindering escape attempts for the stranded vehicles inside it.

South Korea is now experiencing its summer monsoon season, with heavy rainfalls in the past four days resulting in floods and the overflow of a major dam. Rescue teams continue their efforts to respond to the emergency and rescue those trapped in the tunnel, as well as mitigate the damages caused by the floods in affected areas throughout the country.
